"Listen, you little Sith. I don't know where you thought I was going, but I-" "What's going on?" Padawans Far Biwo and Dex Berlingside strolled up to Mace Windu and healer apprentice An-Paj, who were huddled under the Refectory window. An-Paj turned to them. "Shhss! Get down! Qui-Gon's going through a messy breakup with Sal-Fina!" Dex let out an amused chuckle. "At last! I was beginning to think he was planning on keeping the little witch. What possessed him?" Mace turned and grinned at the new arrivals. "I'm guessing he was blinded by her charms." "I'd be blinded by a Slounion Pepper spray, too, but you don't see me dating one!" Mace pressed his ear against the wall. "Sith, I can't hear a thing!" "We could go around the back, and listen from the kitchen." Far suggested. Dex looked skeptically at Mace. "Think they'd let us in?" Mace ran a hand through his pride and joy, the thick rich hair that crowned his head. "It's worth a shot. Let's go." "What are you doing in here!?" The cook yelled at them. "It's alright, we're just gonna stay for a few minutes, then we'll leave." The cook looked about to protest again, but he caught Mace's glance in the direction of the quarreling couple outside and cast them a mischievous grin. "Friends of yours?" Mace nodded. "Okay, I've gotta run out back to the storeroom and get something, you've got ten minutes. DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING." Mace flashed the man his most trustworthy smile. "Who, us?" After the man left, Mace knelt by the window, dangerously close to the stove where a vat of what looked like Sullustion snail soup was stinking up the place. "Uuuhhh..." Far turned up his nose in disgust. "We're in the chamber of horrors!" An-Paj glanced at him. "Can't be much worse than that stuff you make." Mace threw up a hand to silence them. "Quiet! I'm trying to listen to this. It sounds like they're about ready to to come to blows! I wish I'd brought the holocamera!" Behind him, Berlingside's eyes went wide. "Uh, Mace?" "Not now." "Mace..." "Shhssh!" "MACE!" Windu turned around with annoyance. "What?" Qui-gon turned again to Sal-Fina. "That's it, we are OVER!" "Oh, good! Now I won't have to spend another night with you and those friends of yours!" "What's wrong with my friends?" "They're idiots!" Qui-Gon snorted and placed his hands on his hips. "Oh, really?" Mace Windu chose that minute to burst in from the kitchen, his head aflame. Dex, Far and An-Paj ran in with three buckets of water and tried to douse the flames. Only one hit Mace. The other two drenched Qui-Gon and his soon-to-be-ex girlfriend. She turned matter-of-factly toward him. "I rest my case." She said sweetly. |
